UFO Britain: Photos and 4,400 Pages of Records of UFO Sightings Released (VIDEO)

UFO sightings in Britain over the past 60 years have been documented in more than 4,000 pages worth of records, according to reports on Friday.

The documents have been released by Britain's Ministry of Defence on Friday, and contain 4,300 pages of cached files describing strange sightings across the country, including over the iconic Stonehenge, as well as over the Houses of Parliament in London.

The documents also reveal the reasons why the ministry decided to close down its UFO desk nearly four years ago. It is recorded that due in part to the proliferation of camera phones, the number of reports of UFO sightings doubled in the U.K. in 2008. The next year in 2009, the sightings tripled, putting a strain on resources, and eventually leading to the closure of the UFO desk.

"That really did put a strain on the resources that the MoD had committed to this subject, and really led up to their decision to finally pull the plug on Britain's X-Files, simply because they just didn't have the resources to investigate these sightings, or to look at them in any detail," said David Clarke, a UFO historian who reviewed the latest files in a YouTube video. "So they just tended to be filed away."

Clarke also describes in his video that many of the smartphone photos taken by people were of such bad quality that it was hard to tell what the image was of.

In one incident a police helicopter crew in Wales reported a UFO sighting, saying they saw a cluster of small rotating objects in the sky in June 2008. The sighting led to some tabloid newspapers to declare that there was an "Alien Army." However, it was later determined by the Ministry of Defence that the objects were simply Chinese Lanterns that had been released from a wedding party in the area.
