'Uncharted 4: A Thief's End' Events Make It Hard to Make a Sequel with Nathan Drake, Says Co-Director

"Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" is the end for the series protagonist Nathan Drake, so says the game's co-director. He also reveals that another installment starring Drake would be really hard to do because of the events in the upcoming game.

Developer Naughty Dog's creative director Neil Druckmann spoke with The Sun recently about the game. The interview was published on Sunday, Jan. 10.

In the interview, Druckmann was asked about the fate of Nathan Drake, specifically if fans will still be able to catch Drake in another sequel to the game. Druckmann doesn't answer directly at first, saying that although it might not be a good business decision to let go of Drake at this point in time when the character is at the height of his popularity, in the end, the director went with his gut feel that this is the best way to honor Drake.

"I feel like the best way to honor him is to go out on top, to finish his story," Druckmann told The Sun.

As for the series itself, Druckmann said he doesn't know if "Uncharted 4" will be the end of the series. He adds that Sony owns the rights to the game and it can do whatever it wants with it. If it does decide to continue the franchise with a sequel, Druckmann believes the events of the upcoming game might make it difficult to do that.

"But with the end of this story, it will be really hard to do a sequel with Nathan Drake," Druckmann told The Sun. Maybe there'll be a prequel, maybe it will be a different character, I don't know. But this is the end for Nathan Drake."

"Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" is Naughty Dog's the final entry in the "Uncharted" series. The game is set to arrive in April 2016 as a Sony PlayStation 4 exclusive title.
