Westboro Baptist Church Blames Red Sox, Cardinals Fans For Catastrophes; Plans to Picket MLB World Series in St Louis

Westboro Baptist Church, recognized by most in the Christian community as a hate group and not associated with any traditional Baptist congregations, plans to picket Games 3 and 4 of the 2013 Major League Baseball World Series at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Mo. this weekend "to remind this nation that organized sports has given itself wholly over to the fag agenda."

The controversial group said in a statement that both Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals fans have brought on recent catastrophic and fatal events to each of the team's states including the Boston Marathon bombing and the deadly 2011 Joplin, Mo. tornado because of their sins. They also argue that fans worship "strutting peacock" athletes who in turn play sports to glorify themselves.

"You brutes had better heed our warning and put away your proud sin. Get your idolatrous butts out of those stadium seats, and bow down to your Creator, mourn for you sin, and obey Him! @MLB is a hotbed of proud fag/enabling sin (with their false-tongued-&-hearted profiteering about "bullying" on "Spirit Day," etc.)," they stated, referring to the Cardinals' LBGT night, an event the team hosted in support of LGBT youth and promote anti-bullying.

They continued, "This nation pours billions into worshipping this sport instead of worshipping God. Indeed, if you spent one tiny fraction of what you spend on your baseball-worship on learning what the Bible actually says, this would be a blessed righteous nation."

Westboro is also targeting both teams because they wear red in their uniforms that the church says is symbolic of the blood of murdered unborn children, and that of thousands killed in "unrighteous wars."

"It is fitting that the national pastime for a nation rotting from within wants to promote sin with all its might," the church said in another statement. "As destruction rains down all over this vile land, the people drunkenly praise the vanity of their sports idols. The day is coming soon when God will destroy this entire world forever. After that, it won't matter one whit who won this stinking game of fetid disobedience to the Word of God."

The group, known for picketing the funerals of slain American soldiers, while carrying posters with bold slogans, believes that the deaths of soldiers and other tragedies occur as God's punishment for America's tolerance of homosexuality.

According to the Topeka, Kan.-based church, protesters have conducted 51,445 pickets since 1991 that they describe on their website as "daily peaceful sidewalk demonstrations opposing the homosexual lifestyle of soul-damning, nation-destroying filth."
