What Is a Quiet Time?

... present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

Who are your good friends? Do you spend lots of time with them and talk to them often? God wants to be your friend and helper. He is the very best friend you could ever have! The only way to become best friends with Him, though, is to spend time with Him.

Talking to God in prayer only once in a while isn't enough. Learning about God with other people is good, but you shouldn't stop there. You need to spend time alone with God each day to get to know Him well. Even Jesus took time alone to talk to God. The time you set aside to be alone with God is called your quiet time.

When you start your quiet time, ask God to teach you and to help you obey Him. Then read God's Word, the Bible, and think about what it means. Spend some time memorizing a Bible verse, too. If you don't have a Bible, you can read Bible verses in this book. End your quiet time with prayer. Talk to God about what He has shown you in the Bible and about everything else in your life. Having a quiet time is one way you can "present yourself to God as one approved" like our verse says.
