A pro-life group has ranked Arkansas as the most pro-life state in the United States for the seventh year in a row and honored Louisiana's attorney general with an award for challenging the Trump administration to halt regulations allowing abortion pills to be distributed by mail.

In a statement Wednesday, Americans United for Life announced the release of its 2027 Life List, which ranks all 50 states based on their laws governing “all bioethical issues from conception to natural death, not just abortion.”

The other states that round out the top 10 on the 2027 Life List are Louisiana, Oklahoma, Indiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, South Dakota, Kentucky, Florida and Idaho. By contrast, Oregon was identified as the least pro-life state. Vermont, New Jersey, Hawaii, Washington, Colorado, New Mexico, New York, Illinois and California round out the bottom 10.

The advocacy organization identified Arkansas as the most pro-life state in the U.S. for the seventh year in a row, saying it has consistently demonstrated willingness to partner with pro-life organizations such as Arkansas Family Council and Arkansas Right to Life to protect life "from conception to natural death."

“Under the leadership of Governor [Sarah] Sanders, and in close partnership with AUL, Arkansas Family Council and Arkansas Right to Life, have demonstrated a consistent commitment to protecting life from conception to natural death,” said AUL CEO John Mize at a ceremony in Alexander, Arkansas, unveiling the 2027 Life List. “States across the nation should follow the blueprint Arkansas has drafted as the state continues to expand its protections for life.”

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Sanders, who attended the ceremony alongside the Arkansas Family Council, released a statement describing herself as “incredibly proud that Arkansas is ranked the most pro-life state in the nation.”

“Every life is a gift from our Creator, made in His image, and is worth defending,” said Sanders, the daughter of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a former Baptist pastor. “As Governor, I will continue fighting for every Arkansan, at every stage of life, and make our state the best place to live, work, and raise a family.”

AUL presented Louisiana’s Republican Attorney General Liz Murrill, who sued last year to challenge the Trump administration to change Biden-era regulations that removed a prohibition against abortion pills being dispensed through the mail, with its “Defender of Life” award.

The organization praised Murrill’s “stalwart and consistent commitment to fighting against abortion shield laws and defending the rights of pro-life states to enforce their laws and protect their citizens.”

“The fight for life didn’t end with Dobbs,” Murrill stated, referring to the 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision that determined that the U.S. Constitution does not contain a right to abortion. “The abortion cartel simply adapted and pushed forward. With the support of organizations like Americans United for Life, pro-life states and advocates are fighting back to defend women and babies.”

Sarah Zagorski, AUL’s vice president of marketing and communications and a native Louisianan, expressed gratitude for Murrill's work, maintaining that “innovative legal strategy is key in the fight for life after Dobbs, and Louisiana is taking the fight to the abortion industry.”
