'X Factor' Semifinals: Performances Tonight

The final four contestants on ‘X Factor” have prepared for the semifinals Wednesday night and hope to make it to next week’s final round.

Last week saw the shocking elimination of 13-year-old Rachel Crow after she and contestant Marcus Canty were tied in the bottom two.

“X Factor” final four contestant Melanie Amaro commented on Crow’s elimination saying, “She’s only 13, and she can sing like that? She has a big career ahead of her. She really has to continue to work hard and do what she loves.”

Amaro has remained a favorite on this season of the reality show, and the 19-year-old will take the stage during tonight’s live performance episode.

Also performing Wednesday night will be finalist Chris Rene. The 28-year-old California native stole last week’s performances with an original song, and is believed to be a strong contender in the upcoming finals.

Josh Krajcik was nicknamed “magic” after his performance last week. The 30-year-old contestant will also take the stage on tonight’s episode before judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger, and L.A. Reid.

Twenty-year-old Marcus Canty also remains in the competition after narrowly escaping elimination last week. The fourth semi-finalist will continue his quest for the “X Factor” prize on Wednesday’s episode.

The next elimination is up to viewers at home who vote for their favorite contestant. After tonight’s live performances, Thursday’s episode will send another singer home, leaving just three contestants to compete in next week’s two-part finale.

“X factor” contenders range in age and background, and include solo acts as well as groups. The reality singing show pits contestants against each other as viewers vote each week to determine the winner.

It is hard to ignore the blatant similarities to “X Factor” and judge Cowell’s former show “American Idol,” but he is quick to point out how the differences in the series makes “X Factor” superior.

The British judge told TV Guide, “I was making a lot of money on ‘American Idol,’ but I did ‘X Factor’ because I genuinely felt this was a better show. I personally was happier sitting on a show where older people could compete with younger people who could compete with groups. I just preferred that process.”

“X Factor” airs live Wednesday and Thursday on FOX at 8 p.m. EST.
