Xiaomi Mi5 Release Date, Specs Rumors: Chinese Brand's Upcoming Flagship Could Be Game Changer

Xiaomi is among the most popular Chinese mobile phone manufacturers, and it is slowly expanding its market in India and other parts of Asia. And so even with the absence of new high-end devices, the company sees to it that new midrangers are made unveiled and made available in budding markets in the region.

However, the time of the year has come for Xiaomi to unveil its upcoming flagship device, dubbed the Mi 5.

Last year, the Chinese manufacturer unveiled its Mi 4 device in August, and several weeks before the IFA event in Berlin that year. Xiaomi may follow the same announcement schedule this year, as mentioned by rumors and reports.

According to a report by Techno Buffalo, the upcoming Android flagship would make its debut tomorrow, Aug. 13, in a press event, probably set in China. In addition to the Xiaomi Mi 5, another handset that is expected to make an appearance in the event is the Mi 5 Plus, which has appeared in rumored reports as well.

An updated version of the company's UI, MIUI 7, will also be introduced together with the two high-end devices.

As far as rumors are concerned, the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5 will boast a 5.2-inch display with QHD or 2K (2560 x 1440) resolution, the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, an octa-core CPU, with four Cortex-A57 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores, and 4GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the Mi 5 Plus is said to get a bigger 5.7-inch display with the same screen resolution.

In addition, some interesting but unconfirmed features include a fingerprint sensor similar to that of Apple's Touch ID, water and dust resistance, an Adreno 430 GPU, Corning Gorilla Glass 4, and Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box.

Based on rumors and reports by tech websites, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will keep the low price tag of its predecessor. The upcoming handset will only cost $399, according to rumors.
