Amazon Kindle Oasis Details Leaked, to Feature Novel New Design

Amazon may be releasing a new e-reader soon and though it's supposed to be kept under wraps until official reveal, details have emerged online ahead of time, giving fans a sneak peek of what's the online retailer is up to. According to a report by Motherboard, the new device that Amazon is cooking up is going to be called as the Oasis. It's based on a product listing that was previously released on Amazon's Japanese website.

Liliputing also detailed that images of the proclaimed 'top of the range' device has been leaked on a listing at Chinese retail outlet TMall. The page containing the details has been removed already though but due to a post on Amazon's Canadian website, the information was confirmed. The page at the Canadian website has also been removed already.

But before it was brought down, Reddit user was able to jot down the revealed details. According to the information, the new Kindle Oasis, which is Amazon's eighth generation e-book reader, is said to come with a resolution of 300 ppi. Weighing 131 grams and measuring 3.4mm at its thinnest and 8.5mm at its thickest, the device may be designed to be waterproof, thus the name Oasis.

Aside from that, BGR stated in a report that the upcoming new e-book reader will flaunt a novel new design. It is said to be covered with a removable battery case in genuine leather, which can help in extending the battery life up to "several months." And as observed from the leaked images, it may come with an asymmetrical design. It's also speculated to feature gravity sensor and LED backlight.

The Verge also noted that the device comes with a new "Kindle sleep mode" which is predicted to be a software feature that can help in prolonging the lifespan of the device. It's called to be a "dual-battery system.

In a tweet by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, he announced that they will be revealing more details next week, which means everything will be unveiled pretty soon.
