Android M Release Date for Nexus 5, 6, 9: Not All Nexus Devices Set to Receive Update

Google is all set to release Android 6.0 Marshmallow for a handful of Nexus devices beginning next week, but not all Nexus models will receive the update.

There have been reports about Google rolling out the final version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow for certain Nexus devices starting Oct. 5. The new operating system will be released for the LG Nexus 5, Motorola Nexus 6, HTC Nexus 9, Asus Nexus 7 (2013), and Asus Nexus Player, according to Latin Post.

Google unveiled the final version of Android Marshmallow during its event today. The search giant also launched its flagship smartphones LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P.

Some Android fans have already tried the Marshmallow developer preview that came out in May. Three more upgrades came after that, and now Google is ready to release the final version of the OS next week for Nexus devices, Australia Network News reports.

Nexus devices released in 2012 will not receive the Android 6.0 M update because Google thinks it is a waste of time and effort. These devices include the LG Nexus 4, Asus Nexus 7 (2012), and Samsung Nexus 10 tablet.

Not all the new Nexus devices will get the Android 6.0 M either. But owners of Nexus devices not included in the list can always update their phones manually. On the same date that the new OS is rolled out, Google will bring the final Marshmallow code to the Android Open Source Project, the report details.

Based on leaked information from Canadian mobile carrier Telus, Google will begin rolling out Android 6.0 M to the LG Nexus 5 and Motorola Nexus 6 on Oct. 5. Those in the United States will most likely get the Google software update first before any other country does, the report adds.

The newest Android 6.0 M will include updated Android Pay and Google Now, and improved fingerprint sensor, power and charging, web experience, app permissions, and support for backup data.
