Derek Jeter Launches Website to Connect Players With Fans, Does Twitter Q & A

Derek Jeter launched his website that attempts to connect players to the fans in a new way Wednesday, and the former beloved Yankees All-Star celebrated by opening up to fans on Twitter. ThePlayersTribune.com is looking to be "the voice of the game" in media in an unfiltered way, and it represents Jeter's transition, as he said he won't be back in the stadium anymore.

Derek Jeter's website has only two pieces on it so far — one about him leaving the Yankees and another piece about domestic violence by Seattle Seahawks quarterback and new senior editor Russell Wilson — but he says it won't be replacing reporters, sportswriters or producers.

"We're not trying to take away from sportswriters. Sportswriters are what makes sports successful," Jeter said in a statement to the Associated Press. "I think we're sort of working in conjunction with them."

Jeter admitted that he has had to be "guarded" with what he says to media, because statements can be easily misconstrued or misrepresented in an era of social media and constant sharing.

"How many times do you see someone put something out, and then next thing you know, they're saying it came across the wrong way, it was out of context, it's not what I meant," he said. "We just need to be sure our thoughts will come across the way we intend."

Jeter celebrated his retirement from baseball and launch of The Players Tribune with a Twitter question and answer session.

The five-time champion said his favorite field to play on besides Yankee Stadium is Anaheim's.

"Field's in great condition and the weather is always good," he said.

If he had to have dinner with three former baseball players, Jeter said he'd pick "Jackie Robinson, Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth." He also admitted to being scared of cats, loving Patsy's pizza in New York City, and having a crush on Hope from "Days of Our Lives" when he was younger.
