The Detroit Lions and the New Orleans Saints are set to go head to head on Sunday in a big game taking place at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in Louisiana. The game has a scheduled start time of 1 p.m. ET in New Orleans, and can be watched on TV on the Fox network or online through live stream (details below).
It's the business end of the season and in the coming few weeks what teams do and how they perform will determine whether they make the postseason or not.
The Lions and the Saints are two teams either side of the Playoffs Picture right now, with the Lions occupying the 3rd seed spot in the NFC with a 7-4 record. However, the Saints have it all to do in the coming few weeks, and they are looking from the outside in at the moment, with a 5-6 record, which is only good enough for the 9th seed position.
That mean the Saints will be desperate for the win today, and a loss would practically put them on the brink of elimination from postseason contention.
However, they can expect no favors from the Lions today, as Detroit themselves do not have much room for error. They are top of the NFC North, but have the 6-6 Minnesota Vikings chasing them. A win today coupled with other results going their way could place them into the Playoffs with weeks to spare.
Looking at the history between these two teams, things could not be more evenly split. The all time series is tied 11-11-1, so historically this 24th regular season meeting could go either way. However, these teams have a recent history of things going back and forth, with the Saints winning three in a row before falling to the Lions in each of their last two match ups against one another.
Many fans will remember the 2014 clash when the Lions gained victory 24-23 with two touchdowns in the final 3:38.
Then last December, Detroit gained victory at the Superdome 35-27, a result which all but ended the Saints' postseason hopes.
