iPhone 5 Release Date: Smartphone to be Most Intimate Gadget Yet?

IPhone 5 Uses Intuition and Accessibility to Draw In Users

The Economist has predicted that the highly anticipated iPhone 5 will be the most intimate piece of technology to date.

“The PC may have been personal; a Smartphone or tablet, held in your hand rather than perched on your desk, is almost intimate, and you can take it almost anywhere,” said The Economist in its Oct. 2011 issue.

Apple, which The Economist magazine refers to as “the Gucci of gadgets,” has found a coveted niche in the heart of America’s public with its sleek minimalist design and pricey stigma.

The proof is in the numbers. After new Apple CEO Tim Cook failed to impress at the “Let’s Talk iPhone” conference in Cupertino, CA on Oct. 4, Apple stocks dropped 5.2 percent within one hour of the press conference. Cook revealed the iPhone 4s, as opposed to the expected new iPhone 5, which is now to be released in late 2012 or even early 2013.

Similarly, when previous Apple CEO Steve Jobs died of pancreatic cancer on Oct. 5, Apple stock barely dropped 1 percent.

The Wall Street Journal attributes this stability to the company’s ability to maintain America’s attention, regardless of a change in leadership.

“Apple has indeed ushered in a new era, in which personal technology is finally living up to its standard," wrote The Economist.

Tech critics attribute Apple’s great success to its ability to cater to people’s intuition, using easily accessed applications and maneuverable software.

“An increasing number of Hong Kong people are developing a condition called 'iPhone syndrome' because of bad posture and addiction to their smartphones, wherever they are and whatever they are doing,” wrote The China Daily newspaper.

Apple reigns supreme in the tech kingdom, with other successful companies catering to Apple release dates. For example, Bluetooth company Jawbone released its new and improved Jambox portabe speakers for Smartphones in synch with the expected (and fictitious) iPhone 5 release date of Oct. 4. Similarly, Google's Android will come out with its Ice Cream Sandwich Smartphone in mid-October as the iPhone 5's main competitor.

The iPhone 5 will bring even more technological developments sure to delight its users. Promises of better camera quality, a larger screen, and the voice recognition system Siri will all make the Apple iPhone 5 a more accessible, intimate technological product.
