'Marvel's The Defenders' Release Date, Spoilers & Updates: Showrunners of Netflix Series Face The Challenge of Weaving Cohesive Story For Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage & Iron Fist

"Marvel's The Defenders" will debut next year with the promise of bringing together four distinctly established superheroes. The highly anticipated Netflix series will feature the epic superhero team-up of Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) in New York City.

The Challenge of The Superhero Team-up

Scriptwriters Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie told IGN at a Marvel press event that they are having a great time figuring out how the four superheroes could work together as a team. At the same time, they added that they are facing the biggest challenge of weaving a cohesive story that will satisfy the audience.

Ramirez revealed that they pay attention to the details especially that some of the characters have already crossed paths in the comics and in some of the superheroes' individual series. He added that he and Petrie will also have to deal with the trickiest issue of picking a tone for "The Defenders" without compromising the varying tones of the superheroes' standalone series.

The scriptwriter also pointed out that they want to stay true to the characters and see to it that their individual worlds will not be altered by the team-up. He also teased that they want the series to be something that will satisfy and surprise the audience at the same time.

What to Expect With 'Marvel's The Defenders'

Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel TV, disclosed that the upcoming series will be all about four people with special abilities who are gathered together in New York City to face an awesome responsibility that other people are incapable of handling. He said that the four superheroes will continue to bear the same human problems that they deal on their respective shows.

While the superhero team-up can be directly likened to "The Avengers," Loeb pointed out that the future series will feature a different team-up of superheroes. He said that it will showcase unique characters in a street-level story.

Release Date & No. of Episodes

Per Cinema Blend, "The Defenders" is a miniseries with only eight episodes. The release date of the upcoming series is still not definite. However, based on the previous gaps of Netflix shows, the series is expected to air between August and November in 2017.

The individual series of the superheroes are also coming soon. According to RollingStone, "Marvel's Luke Cage" will premiere on Sept. 30, 2016, while "Marvel's Iron Fist" will air early next year. On the other hand, "Daredevil" Season 3 and "Jessica Jones" Season 2 are returning to Netflix in 2018.
