Metal Gear Solid 5 Ground Zeroes Launches March 18 with Xbox Raiden and PlayStation Classic Snake Exclusives (VIDEO)

Today game developer Konami announced that Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes will launch on March 18 2014, and feature exclusive content for the Xbox 360 and One.

The news was revealed in a trailer the company posted yesterday. The description read:

"Are you prepared for the first part of the METAL GEAR SOLID V experience? The introduction to a new type of warfare from the critically acclaimed Kojima Productions, METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES, is available starting March 18 for Xbox 360, and Xbox One!"

The Xbox versions will include a cyborg soldier named Raiden, who is accessible in a DLC mission called Jamais Vu, later next year. Raiden will appear as he did in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The PS3 and 4 version will feature the Deja Vu add on, which will feature classic PSOne polygonal Snake.

Ground Zeroes is the first part of Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Rain, and will be released first and cheaper as a sort of pre-game for the main game.

"Maybe you could think of a standard Hollywood movie where you have 15-20 minutes then the title, and then the main story starts," Hideo Kojima, series creator, told Kotaku last month. "So all of the events leading to [Phantom Pain] will be happening through the game. You can think of Ground Zeroes as this."

Kotaku reports that Ground will be available for $30 in the spring for PS3 and PS4, and Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

"Ground Zeroes, as far as gameplay goes, will have the player get used to all these different elements, these different actions that we will have within this open world," Kojima said. "So people can get used to it... as far as Ground Zeroes goes, there's one big mission that leads into the events of the main game, so you can see it somewhat as the tanker mission."

He continued, "This main mission in Ground Zeroes is what ties strongly to the main part of Phantom Pain. Within that big mission of Ground Zeroes you have several side elements, collecting specific items, doing something within a certain amount of time... In the side-ops you will find several elements scattered, and when you put them together, it will put together a story within the player's mind of what is the next part of the game."
