Mike Tyson Enters WWE Hall of Fame
Mike Tyson will soon be entered into the World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Fame, TMZ reported on Monday.
Tyson, 45, the former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in June 2011. Tyson confirmed he will in fact be inducted into WWE's Hall of Fame on Mar. 31 at Miami's American Airlines Arena.
"I was the youngest heavyweight champion of all time, but the most fun I ever had in the ring was with WWE," Tyson told The Associated Press.
Tyson still holds the record as the youngest boxer ever to win the WBA, WBC and IBF heavyweight championship titles. Following legal and financial trouble, Tyson quit boxing, saying he no longer had "the fighting guts or the heart anymore."
Tyson, also known as "Iron Mike," said he was "honored" the WWE chose him as an inductee.
Tyson made his first appearance on WWW at WrestleMania XIV as "the special enforcer." He refereed a now-classic wrestling match between "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels. He also guest hosted "Monday Night Raw" in 2010.
A statement on WWE.com describes the now infamous WrestleMania XIV that garnished the boxing champion a new wave of fans.
"First welcomed into WWE by Mr. McMahon, "Iron Mike's" introduction was interrupted by The Texas Rattlesnake, resulting in a wild brawl between the two tough guys. Weeks later, Tyson aligned himself with HBK and D-Generation X."
Tyson went on to stun fans by turning on Sean Michaels.
"WWE fans who thought this association would sway the brawler's involvement at WrestleMania XIV were shocked when Tyson ended up being the one who counted the pin to give Austin his first WWE Title. After the bout, the heavy hitter knocked an angry Michaels out cold in front of a rabid Boston crowd."
Tyson will join Mil Mascaras and the "The Four Horsemen" as a WWE Hall-of-Famer in March.
