National Peanut Butter Lover's Day Thursday

This year National Peanut Butter Lover's Day has arrived on Thursday and people everywhere are celebrating.

The holiday salutes one of America's most popular peanut-derived sandwich spread, which comes in booth smooth and crunchy forms.

George Washington Carver is largely credited for creating peanut butter in the U.S. The famous spread if comprised of 90 percent or more peanuts.

Peanut butter has a high level of monounsaturated fats and is high in protein, vitamins B3 and E, and antioxidants, but has been banned in many schools because of dangerous reactions for people with a peanut allergy. Reactions include anaphylactic shock which can result in death.

Aside from the broadly popular peanut butter and jelly sandwich, there are many different recipes offering uses for the creamy spread that include cakes, brownies, porridge, pancakes, and Elvis Presley's famous favorite - peanut butter and banana sandwich with bacon.

Among the many dishes that call for it, the oils found in peanut butter are known to remove chewing gum from hair.

Peanut butter lovers took to Twitter posting how they are celebrating the spread on Thursday.

"It's National Peanut Butter Lovers Day! We love @peanutbutterco smooth operator w/ sliced banana & honey," posted the Twitter account for Metro Cooking.

Erin posted, "Finally an excuse to make peanut butter cookies!"

"It's National Peanut Butter Lovers Day. That means I should probably have a peanut butter cup, right?" wrote Twitter user Philly.

Rebecca wrote, "Give me a spoon & a jar & I'm ready to celebrate!"

"I love crunchy PB&J sandwiches," posted Michael. "Never get tired of 'em!"

Along with National Peanut Butter Lover's Day, March 1 also marks pop singer Justin Bieber's 28th birthday, World Compliment Day, and National Pig Day.

More holidays about the nutty spread include National Peanut Butter Day celebrated on Jan. 24, while April 2 marks National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day.
