Pat Boone Says Donald Trump in Touch With His Spirituality

Publicly derided by celebrities on a regular basis, Donald Trump found an ally in Pat Boone who defended him from personal attacks and criticisms. The singer said the president is in tune with his spirituality as shown by the advice he has been getting from men of God.

Boone lamented that Trump's title as president of the United States hasn't earned him any respect at all. On the contrary, it has made him an easy target. He also blamed late-night talk shows and "Saturday Night Live" for fueling much of the negativity surrounding the president.

"I do think there are powerful forces and people in powerful positions who hold very contrary views," he told Fox News. "They will — from 'SNL' and TV — lampoon, and viciously for laughs. And late night talk show hosts they ridicule, and in effect do more than ridicule."

Boone believes Trump has relied more on his faith in recent months, saying, "Trump is a fairly recent professed Christian... It was only in the last year or two that he has had input from Christian leaders and ministers, and I think he has come to fully understand what being a Christian is."

He added that there is more of an overt evidence of faith in the new president than there was in his predecessor.

This is not the first time the 82-year-old music legend took the cudgels for the president. He criticized Meryl Streep for attacking Trump's policies in her Golden Globe speech, saying award shows should not be used to launch rants against people they don't agree with politically.

A devout Christian, Boone fired his comments against the three-time Oscar winner Streep at the 25th Annual Movieguide Awards, which celebrates Christian movies. He is currently working on the faith-based film "A Cowgirl's Story" about a teenager who is compelled to live with her grandfather as her parents are in the military.
