Paula Deen Sheds 2 Pant Sizes Since Diabetes Announcement

Paula Deen has appeared two pant sizes smaller this week after recently announcing she was diabetic.

The Food Network star said she had type 2 diabetes six weeks ago, and divulged that she has shed to pant sizes by eating less.

"I've dropped two pant sizes, and I feel great," the 64-year-old told to People magazine.

Deen added that she walks for 30 minutes every day and has cut her food portions in half. Although she does not know how much she weighs, the Southern culinary expert keeps tabs on her progress by visiting the doctor regularly.

"We don't own a scale in our house," Deen explained to the magazine. "Every six months I go for a physical and find out."

Deen waited three years to publicly announce her type 2 diabetes, stirring controversy.

"I made the choice at the time to keep it close to me, to keep it close to my chest," said Deen at the time of the announcement, according to USA Today. "I felt like I had nothing to offer anybody other than the announcement. I wasn't armed with enough knowledge. I knew when it was time, it would be in God's time."

Deen was criticized for boasting recipes such as a burger between two doughnuts while suffering a condition caused in part by obesity and unhealthy habits.

Since her announcement, Deen has partnered with diabetes drug maker Novo Nordisk on a new campaign, "Diabetes in a New Light." Also, Deen promised to provide fans with healthier versions of her Southern-style food.

"I am who I am, but what I will be doing is offering up lighter versions of my recipes," Deen told the Associated Press.

The cook clarified that her fans should not expect anything too light, adding, "I'm Southern by roots. I was taught [to cook] by my grandmother and nothing I can do would change that."
