'Pharma Bro' Martin Shkreli Plans to Make Money While in Prison

Martin Shkreli is going back behind bars. His $5 million bail has been revoked after a U.S. District Judge decided that his latest Facebook stunt counts as "solicitation of assault" against Hillary Clinton, who's currently out promoting her new book. He hopes to still make money even while in prison.

In an email exchange with Gizmodo, reporter Matt Novak, The former CEO of a pharmaceuticals company shared his immediate plans for his time behind bars. He has just been found guilty of securities and wire fraud last month, according to Ars Technica, for which he could be looking at up to 20 years in jail.

Faced with the prospect of a lengthy prison term, he answered Novak. "It will be a good opportunity to read and reflect and also I can make paper from inside," Shkreli mused, thinking about what he would do if sentenced. By "making paper" he means he plans to make money, in other words.

"I would mostly read business reports from my companies and technical materials (medicine, computer science)," he replied when asked about what he would read in jail. "I read a lot so I'm not sure 'top 5' works. I don't read much fiction but I would probably bone up on philosophy," the "pharma bro" added.

He could have been waiting for his sentence outside the slammer, with his $5 million bail, if not for his recent posts on social media.

Prosecutors cited the former CEO for posing a "danger to the community," pointing to a Facebook post he made on Sep. 4, among others. In the post, Shkreli offered a reward worth $5,000 for anyone who can pluck hair off Hillary Clinton's head.

The former Secretary of State is currently on tour for her memoir "What Happened," and is still under protection by the Secret Service. The argument by prosecutors prompted Judge Kiyo Matsumoto to revoke his bail, calling the Facebook post evidence of a "solicitation of assault" against the 2016 presidential elections candidate.
