Simi Valley Shooting: Suspect Shot, Killed by Police After Killing Mother

A Simi Valley shooting has led to a suspect being shot and killed by police this weekend.

The suspect, Ryan Carnan, 29, reportedly shot his mother to death at her Simi Valley home on Saturday afternoon.

The suspect's brother reportedly made the emergency call to report the murder, and emergency responders arrived at the scene to find Carnan's family home engulfed in flames.

Firefighters worked to put out the blaze, and once they were able to enter the building they found the mother's corpse.

Although the woman has not yet been officially identified, investigators are reasonably sure that it is the mother of the suspect.

Simi Valley police department said in a statement: "Although her identity has not been confirmed, it is believed to be Carnan's mother."

A report later reached police that Carnan was shooting randomly at people as he was driving around on his tractor.

Officers again responded, and according to CBS, Carnan exchanged shots with police officers. In the exchange the suspect was shot and killed.

According to eye-witness reports, about SWAT team members attended the scene and ordered everyone to remain in their homes. Then about two dozen shots were reportedly fired in the exchange before the incident came to an end.

Stephanie Shannon of the Simi Valley Police Department has said: "Police have to make quick decisions. That decision in this case resulted in an individual being shot by our officers that what I would suggest has been the direct result of saving people's lives in this neighborhood."
