Initially the first rumors of Valve's platform sale surfaced on NeoGAF last week. That had thousands interested online, but the sale was then confirmed on Wednesday, and that has led to hug excitement across blogs and social media sites about the sale.

The Steam summer sale 2014 will include daily game deals, discounted items, long and short-term offers as well as hundreds of other deals.

However, those interested in taking part in the sale should know that to catch a deal, timing is of vital importance, because some discounts will only be available for set periods and for a limited time only. In the past some interested customers have waited too long only to later check back and the sale to have disappeared. Those interested are urged not to wait, but if you know there is something you want, to grab it when it's available.

At present there are a number of featured games available on Steam including zombie survival horror "DayZ," indie title "Starbound" and action role-playing game "A Wizard's Lizard."

However, there have been no official announcements about whether any of these titles will be offered at a lower price.
