Taunton Plane Crash Kills 2 at Airport in Massachusetts

A Taunton plane crash has killed two people at a municipal airport in southeastern Massachusetts, according to authorities.

The incident took place on Sunday early morning, however, the type of aircraft has not yet been announced.

According to The Associated Press, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen has reported that federal officials were told by local authorities that the plane crashed at Taunton Municipal Airport at about 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

Bergen also confirmed that authorities were trying to determine the type of the aircraft.

Reports have also confirmed that the FAA is investigating the incident and will make further announcements when their investigations clarify what exactly went wrong.

Officials at Taunton Municipal Airport have not made any public announcement about the crash yet.

Taunton Municipal Airport is also known as King Field, and is a public use airport located three nautical miles (6 km) east of the central business district of Taunton, a city in Bristol County, Massachusetts.

It is located in the East Taunton neighborhood of the city. The city-owned airport is maintained and operated by the Taunton Airport Commission. According to the FAA's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2009–2013, it is categorized as a general aviation airport.

Although many U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, this airport is assigned TAN by the FAA and no designation from the IATA.
