— TobyMac pens ‘honest,’ heartfelt song '21 Years' after son's death

Grammy Award-winning artist TobyMac released a new song titled “21 Years dedicated to his late son, Truett Foster McKeehan, who died unexpectedly at his home on October 23 last year.

He described the song as an “honest” letter from him to his 21-year-old first-born child. TobyMac said the last couple of months have been the hardest he’s ever faced, and although he never wanted to pen such a song, he hopes the new single will help others who are also grieving a loss.

— Equal Rights Amendment failed to meet deadline, too late to ratify

The Equal Rights Amendment, which some conservatives feared would be used to advance abortion rights and LGBT polices, has failed to reach the necessary number of states to support ratification by its deadline, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Multiple state legislatures have considered legislation to give the ERA the necessary super-majority to be added to the U.S. Constitution. However, Assistant Attorney General Steven Engel issued a memorandum Monday explaining that the ERA has already failed to meet a previously determined deadline by Congress.

Mat Staver, founder and chairman of the Liberty Counsel, told The Christian Post that he believed if the ERA passed, it could “be used as a hammer against religious organizations, including churches, to provide abortion or abortion-inducing drugs or devices.”

— India refuses to let US pastor leave country

An American pastor who’s been detained in India for three months without charge has been prohibited from leaving the country.

Pastor Bryan Nerren, the head of International House of Prayer Ministries in Shelbyville, Tennessee, was arrested for not declaring money he was traveling with despite not being given any forms to fill out to declare the funds and pay a mandatory duty fee. He was jailed for six days in October and then released on bail but has been barred from leaving the country.

The pastor was scheduled to have a court hearing on Thursday but it was postponed.

— UK reopens investigation into Christian doctor who prays with patients

A British doctor is again under investigation for praying with his patients. Dr. Richard Scott of the Bethesda Medical Centre in Margate, Kent, faced the possibility of losing his medical license after a complaint was filed against him last year.

A U.K. regulatory agency is now reviewing its decision to close a previous complaint against a Christian doctor accused of violating professional conduct by praying with his patients. Scott, a general practitioner, was subject to a fitness-to-practice inquiry from the General Medical Council after a complaint was filed by the National Secular Society, a British advocacy group promoting the strict interpretation of separation of church and state.

The organization claimed that Scott made a vulnerable patient feel uncomfortable by praying. The allegation was made to NSS by a friend of the patient, not the patient.

Scott told the U.K. newspaper The Daily Mail last month that he has discussed his faith with about 40 patients in the past with only about 10 of them issuing a complaint. One of those complaints, from 2012, went to the GMC.
