6. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska
When Sen. Frank Murkowski, R-Alaska, won the 2002 Alaska governor's race, he appointed his daughter, Lisa, to finish his U.S. Senate term.
She won a full term in 2004 but lost the 2010 Republican primary. She then launched a write-in campaign and was successfully reelected that year, winning again as a Republican in 2016 and 2022.
She continues to serve as Alaska's senior senator in the U.S. Senate.
