3 key details about armed man killed after breaching Mar-a-Lago's secure perimeter
3. Martin reportedly came from a family of Trump supporters
Austin Tucker Martin’s cousin, Braeden Fields, 19, told The Associated Press that he and the suspect grew up together. Fields described his cousin as a “good kid” who was quiet and whose family supported President Donald Trump.
According to Fields, Martin worked at a golf course and used his paycheck to donate to charity. The suspect, who graduated in 2023 from Union Pines High School in Cameron, North Carolina, also started an artwork company in 2025.
The company, Fresh Sky Illustrations, focuses on “bringing to life the hopeful feeling of being on a golf course” through handmade artwork, according to the website.
“I wouldn’t believe he would do something like this. It’s mind-blowing,” the suspect’s cousin said.
While Fields said that he and the rest of the family “are big Trump supporters,” his cousin was “real quiet, never really talked about anything.” The 19-year-old expressed disbelief over his cousin’s actions, saying that Martin was someone who “wouldn’t even hurt an ant.”
“He doesn’t even know how to use a gun,” Martin’s cousin told The AP.
Martin registered to vote in Moore County in 2022, as CBS12 reported Monday; however, his party affiliation is listed as unaffiliated.
