3 key details about armed man killed after breaching Mar-a-Lago's secure perimeter
1. Confrontation at Mar-a-Lago gates
On Sunday, two U.S. Secret Service Agents and a deputy with the Palm County Sheriff’s Office shot and killed a man after he breached the perimeter of Mar-a-Lago, according to a statement from the U.S. Secret Service. The suspect, later identified as Austin Tucker Martin, entered the property around 1:30 a.m. carrying a gas can and a shotgun.
During a press conference this week, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said that the authorities who confronted Martin at Mar-a-Lago ordered the suspect to drop the items he was holding. According to the sheriff, the intruder put the gas can down, but he pointed the shotgun at the officers.
Rafael Barros, special agent in charge of the Secret Service Miami Field Office, confirmed that Trump was not in Florida at the time of the incident. Barros also reported that no law enforcement personnel were injured during the encounter on Sunday.
In a Sunday X post, FBI Director Kash Patel stated that the bureau is “dedicating all necessary resources” to the investigation, which includes assistance from the Secret Service and state and federal partners.
