3 things to know about pro-life group founder, activist Geline Williams, who died at 100
1. Devout Catholic who leaves behind nearly two dozen descendants
As explained in an obituary published on the website of Bliley’s Funeral Home, Williams was a devout Catholic who attended St. Catherine’s School in her native Richmond, Virginia, an all-girls school. As an adult, she attended daily Mass at St. Bridget Church and sent her five children to its parish school.
Williams is survived by five children, 12 children and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander, who died in 1996 after more than a half-century of marriage.
Williams elaborated on the importance of her faith in her life in an interview conducted as part of the 4 For Faith series at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richmond. She credited her strong Catholic faith with helping her cope with the deaths of her brother, whose plane was shot down during World War II, and her mother, who died shortly thereafter.
“It’s just a strength that you cannot define in a material way,” she remarked. “It’s just your strength and your hope and your love.”
Williams cited “celebrating the Holy Eucharist” as the primary reason why she tried to go to Mass every day.
