The theological confusion with “godbots” wasn’t limited to Protestant traditions.

Father Justin, an AI chatbot for Catholics, debuted in 2024 and told users that babies could be baptized in Gatorade and that siblings could marry. 

Created by a group called Catholic Answers, the character of Father Justin was reportedly later “defrocked” and presented as a layperson until the AI chatbot was retooled.
