4 of the most controversial quotes from Talarico’s now-viral 2022 sermon

4. 'God needed Mary's consent' for the virgin birth

Hailing the mother of Jesus as a “revolutionary,” Talarico taught the St. Andrew’s congregation that the Son of God was born only because Mary “consented” to the virgin birth.

In his 2022 sermon, Talarico described Mary as an “unwed peasant girl living under an oppressive empire [who] brings God into the world, and when she does, she sings a song of revolution.”

The state representative then made the claim that Jesus was born only because Mary was willing.

“We only have Jesus because a woman consented to creating Him,” he said. “Creation cannot be done without consent. Creation cannot be done by force. God needed Mary's consent because God needs Mary to be free.”

Talarico did not offer any Scripture to support his statement.
