4 states offering pride month alternatives that celebrate family

3. Utah
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox signed a declaration recognizing June as Fidelity Month in the Beehive State. The declaration states that "a majority of Americans no longer esteem values like faith, family, patriotism or community involvement" and that "the survival of the United States depends on the shared bonds of faith, family and patriotism."
"It is fitting to observe one month each year to rededicate the United States to its core values," the document continues.
Fidelity Month began as a grassroots movement started by Robert P. George, a notable Catholic conservative scholar who directs the James Madison Program at Princeton University and is a nonresident senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.
"I'd love to see every town in this country proclaim Fidelity Month — and every state. I'm very grateful to Governor Cox in Utah, and to Governor Sanders in Arkansas for being the first two governors getting the ball rolling here to recognize, on behalf of their states, Fidelity Month," George said in an interview with the American Enterprise Institute published earlier this month.
"Let's have more governors do that. I'd love to have a president of the United States recognize Fidelity Month," he stated. "So, I'd like all of our institutions — religious, civic, commercial, philanthropic, and the institution of the family to recognize Fidelity Month."
According to Fidelity Month's website, the celebration is dedicated to "the importance of fidelity to God, spouses and families, and our country and communities." It also states that the purpose is to heal "the dreadful division in our country."
Project Rainbow Utah, an LGBT activist group, argued that another month could have been recognized as Fidelity Month.
"It's disappointing that a governor who makes 'disagree better' his calling card is so openly dismissive of perspectives other than his own. Pride month is an important celebration that uplifts marginalized folks and gives them resources to survive and spaces where they can thrive," Project Rainbow Utah stated.
