In May, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders designated June as Fidelity Month in the Natural State.

The declaration highlights that "commitment of Arkansas to spiritual and civic institutions is at the core of the State's collective identity" and that "[c]ultivating fidelity to God, family, community, and country contributes to human flourishing and supports a healthy, stable, well-ordered society."

According to the document, Fidelity Month "provides an opportunity for residents to reflect on and renew commitments to these shared values and institutions."

"Look, you can’t go wrong with saying that people need to have fidelity or loyalty and faith leads to their family, to our country, and to God and their faith," Arkansas Senate President Pro Tempore Bart Hester said in an interview with KHBS/KHOG. "This is a direction that has made America who we are; it’s made Arkansas who we are, and I’m really proud of the governor’s leadership."

Amy Erickson, president of NW Arkansas WClub, an LGBT group that focuses on women, argued that June is supposed to be about pride month.

"And, I don’t think that recognizing pride, gay pride, LGBTQ pride, takes anything away from anybody else’s, you know faith, beliefs, traditions," Erickson told 40/29 News. "You know, honoring our history and where we’ve come from and what we’ve overcome, there’s just no reason why stripping that away is necessary as far as I’m concerned."
