4 things to know about Texas' data center boom

2. Which companies are building data centers in Texas?

As of September 2024, about half of the 279 data centers statewide were located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, according to the Texas Comptroller — a number that has undoubtedly risen in the last 18 months.

Those data centers in Dallas and Fort Worth leased upwards of 591 MW of power — enough to power roughly 384,000 average homes — while leasing another 190 MW in the Austin-San Antonio region, a 2024 CBRE report found.

Texas alone has 400 data centers in some phase of operation or construction, according to HARC Research.
