4 things to know about Texas' data center boom
4. What are residents in Red Oak, Texas, saying?
While nearly 2,014 people signed a Change.org petition opposing the development, a number of Red Oak residents invoked the wrath of God as they urged the city council to reconsider.
“This is wrong. It's wrong for our community. It's wrong for our lives. And it's against God's word,” said one woman. “Amen.”
Another resident told the council, “It hurts my heart and my soul that anyone would choose yet another data center over one of God's beautiful tools of nature.
One man protesting the data center read straight from the New Testament to express his views.
“This is the message we have heard from him and announce to you that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all,” he said, reading from 1 John.
Another resident delivered an ominous warning before the city council made their final decision.
“You're going to have a mass accident,” she said. “You're going to ruin this community. You're going to ruin it, ruin it, if you let this continue.”
