4. Riley Gaines: ‘The law of the land now reflects reality and common sense’
Riley Gaines, a former collegiate athlete who has experienced the consequences of trans-identified males competing in women’s sports firsthand, weighed in on Tuesday’s decision in an X post. “The Supreme Court rules that it’s not unconstitutional for states to have sport categories exclusively for women,” she wrote. “This ruling doesn’t mean they MUST have women’s sports, just that it’s not illegal if they do. Nonetheless, it’s a victory!”
In a subsequent X post, Gaines asserted, “The law of the land now reflects reality and common sense.” She maintained that it was “insane that this requires celebrating,” while reiterating that “it’s a victory nonetheless.”
