5 things to know about suspected WHCA Dinner shooting suspect Cole Allen

5. Allen set out to target administration officials, official says

Saturday marked the first time Trump attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner as a sitting president.

The attack began shortly after the event started. Allen, reportedly a hotel guest, rushed a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons.

Video released on Truth Social showed Allen running through security before being subdued. No shots were fired at him.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said it appeared Allen set out to target administration officials, likely including the president.

"We do believe, based upon just a very preliminary start to understanding what happened, that he was targeting members of the administration," Blanche said in an interview with "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan."

Blanche said Allen was not cooperating with investigators.
