He played baseball in college

DeSantis played baseball for the Yale University Bulldogs, joining the team as a freshman in 1998. Statistics outlined in The Daily Pennsylvanian, the newspaper of Yale's Ivy League rival the University of Pennsylvania, reveal that the candidate "racked up 39 hits over the course of 41 games during his freshman season" and helped "Yale to a winning record in the Ivy League that included a two-game sweep of Penn."

Over the next two seasons, DeSantis accumulated a combined 77 hits. During his junior year at Yale, DeSantis "hit career highs in hits with 44, home runs at five, and with 28 [runs batted in.]"

During DeSantis' senior year, his team voted to make him captain. Throughout his four-year career on the Bulldogs, DeSantis collected 156 hits and secured a batting average of .313.

Even as DeSantis personally performed well on the field, his team did not turn in equally strong performances. The Yale Bulldogs won 27 of the games DeSantis played against Ivy League schools throughout his four-year career while losing the other 53.
