'Let There be Peace on Earth'

A popular anthem that has been recorded by various artists over the years, "Let There be Peace on Earth" was written by Jill Jackson-Miller in 1955, with her husband, Sy Miller, being the composer of the melody.

The song was first introduced to a large group of teenagers from diverse backgrounds taking part in an educational weekend retreat in California, according to composer Sy Miller.

“They felt that singing the song, with its simple basic sentiment – 'Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me,' helped to create a climate for world peace and understanding,” he recounted, as quoted by Jan-Lee Music.

“When they came down from the mountain, these inspired young people brought the song with them and started sharing it. And, as though on wings, 'Let There Be Peace on Earth' began an amazing journey around the globe.”
