As the first president of the United States and the commander who led the American rebels to victory over the British Empire, George Washington is quite obviously a well-known figure. 

Sunday marks the 295th birthday of Washington, born to Augustine and Mary Ball Washington. The future historical figure had five siblings, plus three half-siblings from his father’s previous marriage.

While endless volumes have been written about Washington since the 18th century, several interesting facts about the prominent man are lesser known.
