8 Killed, 3 Wounded in Shooting at Salon in Seal Beach, Calif. (VIDEO)

Eight people have been killed and three others wounded Wednesday in a shooting at a hair salon near Los Angeles, in Seal Beach, Calif., according to media reports. The gunman reportedly surrendered without incident.

A gunman opened fire at 1:30 p.m. local time, at Salon Meritage, a busy hair salon, killing at least eight people.

The local media reported a gruesome scene of bodies lying around the salon in an otherwise peaceful beach-side community. The gunman reportedly got into a car and drove away after the shooting. His name was not immediately released.

A female salon employee has reportedly identified the gunman as the husband of another employee.

The man was stopped by the police about half-a-mile away from the crime scene and surrendered without resistance, the authorities said. He was cooperative when officers going on the description of the shooter, stopped him nearby. The gunman reportedly told the officers he had multiple weapons in his car.

The Associated Press reported that the authorities were not sure whether the gunman shot from the side of the entrance, wounding and killing people as they were trying to run for cover, but the bodies were scattered throughout the salon.

One wounded person was found outside of the building.

The salon was busy at the time, with every hair-dressing station in operation, the authorities said.

It has not yet been released what type of weapon was used.

Seal Beach is a town in the western-most corner of Orange County, with a population of 24,168. It is a generally peaceful beach-side town with a retirement community.

Seal Beach has seen just one other homicide in the past four years, according to AP.

Salon customers have been expressing their grief on Yelp, a website that allows people to rate restaurants, beauty parlors and other service providers.

"What a very tragic day for Seal Beach. RIP," one of many similar notes said. "It's so sad, you wake up and you never know what is going to happen to you that day, so be grateful for everyday you live."
