$99 HP TouchPad Sale: Windows 8 OS Implemented on Device

Hewlett-Packard is testing Microsoft's Windows 8 developer software on its HP TouchPad.

This new plan of action by HP hints at the company making its new device work as a Windows 8-enabled tablet. It also means the TouchPad's former operating software, WebOS, will no longer power the device.

"Sources within HP told FoxNews.com that the hardware team has been busy doing proof-of-concept work testing Windows 8 Developer Release on the devices, which are currently listed in retail stores and online at fire-sale prices," said FoxNews' website. "Internally there's been discussion about reviving the defunct tablets – or even building new devices with Windows 8 in mind."

Other reports from within HP said WebOS team members are “negotiating with several buyers.” Some of the companies who are looking to purchase the WebOS computer software are HTC, LG, Nikon, and Amazon.

Several new products that utilize WebOS could become a reality if any of these companies make the purchase. This is a result of former CEO Leo Apotheker's decision to shutdown HP's PC division. Although, Meg Whitman, HP's new CEO, may be holding off on closing the company's hardware and PC division.

In August, HP stopped producing and manufacturing its line of TouchPad's. They announced this through its decision to stop supporting WebOS devices.

In order to satisfy the customer demand for its tablet, HP will release up to 200000 HP TouchPad tablets in October. HP said it could not guarantee the price reduction at every retailer.

"Each retailer will manage their own policy and process regarding pricing and price matching,” said HP’s blog. “Please contact the local retailer of your choice to see what their current position is."
