4 Aftyn Behn controversies: ‘Uncomfortable’ with Christianity, drag shows and anti-Nashville remarks

4. Opposes Tennessee’s ban on abortion trafficking

Behn and Nashville attorney Rachel Welty filed a suit last year against a law in Tennessee that prohibits individuals from helping minors obtain abortions out of state.

In September of last year, Behn celebrated a judge granting a temporary injunction against the law, calling the decision “a huge step forward for free speech and reproductive rights.”

“This ruling doesn’t just protect me as a legislator or Rachel, the other plaintiff in the lawsuit, as an attorney — it protects abortion funds, advocates, and anyone working to help Tennesseans access abortion care,” wrote Behn.

“[The injunction] decision affirms our right to discuss abortion options without fear of legal consequences openly. And it goes beyond Tennessee and protects our ability to have these critical conversations across state lines.”

In July, a judge struck down parts of the abortion trafficking law but allowed for the ban on helping to transport or give shelter to a minor seeking an abortion to remain in place.
