4 Aftyn Behn controversies: ‘Uncomfortable’ with Christianity, drag shows and anti-Nashville remarks
2. Anti-police, anti-Nashville comments
Behn recently garnered controversy for comments she made years ago supporting defunding of police and expressing disdain for her hometown of Nashville.
In one now-deleted post on Twitter from 2020, for example, Behn declared, “Good morning, especially to the 54% of Americans that believe burning down a police station is justified.”
In a 2020 podcast that resurfaced this election season, Behn is heard bashing Nashville, a major city located in the congressional district she's seeking to represent.
“I hate the city, I hate the bachelorettes, I hate the pedal taverns, I hate country music, I hate all of the things that make Nashville apparently an ‘it’ city to the rest of the country. But I hate it,” she reiterated.
In an interview on CNN on Sunday, Behn maintained that her comments about burning down a police station and defunding the police were made as a “private citizen” and part of a broader national call for “accountability and safer policing.”
Regarding her Nashville remarks, Behn said “Nashville is my home” and that her comments reflect the complaints of many residents in the prominent city.
“Do I roll my eyes at the bachelorette parties and the pedal taverns that are blocking my access to my house? Yeah, every Nashvillean does,” she insisted.
