Alicia Silverstone Creates Breast Milk Sharing Network, Doctors Warn About Safety

Alicia Silverstone is raising eyebrows once again after she recently launched the Kind Mama Milk Share, a breast-milk sharing program aimed at new mother's wanting to give their child a natural option as opposed to formula.

Silverstone, 36, made the announcement on her web site which promotes a green and eco-friendly lifestyle.

"Because we are a community of beautiful souls who recognize the importance of food as health, I say we help support those mamas and babies who need a hand during one of the most important times in their lives," Silverstone wrote on her website. "If you have milk to share – post it! If you are in need of milk – post it! Think of all the babies we can help raise together!"

Silverstone revealed that she created the breastmilk-sharing network after a friend had trouble producing milk on her own and did not want to give her new child formula.

"She tried reaching out in her community for donor milk, but it was almost impossible to figure out what kind of lifestyle choices the donors had made. And after all that hard work keeping herself vibrant and healthy, she felt she had a right to demand better for her baby," Silverstone wrote.

However, doctors caution that using untested breast milk from unknown sources poses its own risks such as the chance to spread disease and viruses including HIV.

Silverstone previously made headlines after a video was released that showed her chewing her food before giving it to her young son.

The video is titled "Bear eating my mouth," and features Silverstone eating from a bowl then feeding the chewed food from her mouth to her son's. The actress explains that the practice is a great way to bond with a child.

"I just had a delicious breakfast of miso soup, collards and radish steamed and drizzled with flax oil, cast iron mochi with nori wrapped outside, and some grated daikon. Yum! I fed Bear the mochi and a tiny bit of veggies from the soup ... from my mouth to his."
