Annie Lennox Marries Again
It is never too late for love, as Annie Lennox has proven after marrying boyfriend Mitch Besser on Saturday.
It is Lennox's third marriage; the Scottish singer was formerly married to German Hare Krishna follower Radha Raman and to Israeli film producer Uri Fruchtmann, with whom she shares two daughters.
The British singer reportedly met Besser, an American doctor, through his HIV charity Mothers2Mothers two years ago in South Africa. At the time, the Harvard-educated doctor was married, and is it believed that Besser ended his marriage in order to marry Lennox, according to The Sun.
Both 57 years old, the couple wed during a small ceremony including 150 guests in London on a private boat on the Thames River, according to Mail Online.
Guests included Lennox's daughters Lola, 22, and Tali, 19, who served as bridesmaids. Also, actor Colin Firth and comedian Ruby Wax attended the ceremony, according to the report.
The former Eurythmics star wore a long white gown with a lace shrug and a vintage 1920s-style headpiece, reported Daily Mail. Lennox further confirmed the news with a picture on her Facebook page with the caption, "wedding flowers: 15th September 2012."
Besser and Lennox are both very active in the fight against HIV. Lennox received an Order of the British Empire from Queen Elizabeth II for her charity work last year. She was also given a Woman of the Year Award for her charity work.
Earlier this year, Lennox and Sir Elton John met with Senators John Kerry and Richard Lugar on Capital Hill in Washington, D.C. during an event for UNAIDS.
Lennox is best known for hit songs such as "Walking on Broken Glass" and "Why," as well as songs made while in both bands The Tourist and the Eurythmics. She has been named "The Greatest White Soul Singer Alive" by VH1 and as one of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time by Rolling Stone magazine.
