5. Biden said he was ‘following orders’ from his staff instructing him who to call on

After delivering opening remarks, Biden opened the floor to members of the press in attendance by saying, “They told me, they gave me five people here.” His comment implied that his staff had told him which five reporters to call on in advance of the press conference.

Toward the end of the press conference, Biden remarked, “I’m just following my orders here.” He then directed a question to his staff, asking, “Is there anybody I haven’t spoken to?”

When a member of the press not included on the list tried to ask the president a question, Biden told the reporter, “I ain’t calling on you” because “I said there were five questions.” From there, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called on a reporter from Voice of America to ask the final question. As it turns out, all five of the reporters Biden called on were women.
