While at Wheaton College in Illinois, Graham met his future wife, Ruth, the daughter of missionaries in China. They were married in 1943, until her death in 2007 at the age of 87.

When asked his secret, having been married 54 years to the same woman, he said: "Ruth and I are happily incompatible."
