California Earthquake 2011: Multiple Quakes Rattle Northern California

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck Sierra Nevada late Wednesday night causing shock waves in Sacramento and Reno.

The epicenter was located about nine miles south-southeast of Whitehawk, just 30 miles west of Reno and 90 miles northeast of Sacramento, according to a My News 3 report.

There had been two aftershocks of 1.9 and 1.5 by midnight.

A Nevada county sheriff's dispatcher said it was a rolling earthquake and no injuries or damage were reported.

Early Thursday morning a 3.6 magnitude earthquake hit San Francisco, just a week after two earthquakes were recorded in the bay area.

The quake had a reported depth of five miles. It was centered approximately 30 miles east of San Francisco.

Dozens of people in the area reported feeling the quake on the USGS' website, but police said there haven't been any reports of injuries of damages.

On Oct. 20, two earthquakes hit Berkeley, one of 4.0 magnitude and another of 3.8 magnitude.
