'Cash Cab' Taxi Strikes and Kills Canadian Pedestrian

A pedestrian in Vancouver was struck and killed Friday night by a replica cab from the TV show "Cash Cab." A technical staff member was driving the vehicle from the set of the game show when a 61-year-old man was struck while crossing the street.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and with his friends and his family," said Andrew Burnstein, president of Castlewood Productions Inc., the production company responsible for Canada’s version of "Cash Cab."

"My heart also goes out to the driver of the vehicle, a member of our technical staff, who is shaken and devastated by this tragic accident, as is our entire team," he said.

The family of the victim requested that his name not be released and has not filed any charges, according to the Vancouver Sun. The replica vehicle is being held by investigators.

"Cash Cab" is a trivia game show that rewards unsuspecting taxi riders with cash if they answer correctly to selected questions during their taxi ride. The American version of "Cash Cab," broadcast on the Discovery Channel, is filmed in Chicago and New York.
