The U.S. Supreme Court's ruling this week in Trump v. Barbara, which affirmed that the Citizenship Clause of the 14th Amendment guarantees automatic citizenship to nearly every child born on U.S. soil regardless of their parents' legal status, prompted a torrent of backlash, including from many political commentators.

The ruling dealt a decisive blow to one of President Donald Trump's signature immigration policies, which argued that the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was never intended to confer citizenship on the children of illegal immigrants.

Both Trump and Vice President JD Vance expressed disappointment over the decision, with Trump calling it "too bad for our country" and Vance characterizing the court's interpretation as an "absurdity" that illegal immigrants are exploiting as "a legal loophole."

Here's a list of prominent conservative commentators who echoed their concerns, excoriating the Supreme Court's ruling and warning of its potentially catastrophic consequences.
