Bishop Eddie Long, a controversial pastor who preached the "prosperity gospel," died in January when he was 63. 

Long led one of the nation's largest megachurches, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Georgia. Months before his death, Long had announced that he was facing a "health challenge" but did not specify what it was, which led to many speculations especially as he emerged looking more emaciated and lethargic.

The church later confirmed that Long died following a battle with an "aggressive form of cancer."

A little over a week before his death, Long had stated that God wasn't "through with me."

Bishop Stephen A. Davis was named by Long and the church's board of directors to succeed the late pastor.
